The short version: Dumb It Down gives general food guidance, not medical advice. We try hard to catch every allergen and ingredient that matters, but we can miss things, so always read the package yourself.
These terms cover the Dumb It Down iPhone app ("the app"), made by Martinez United ("we", "us"). By using the app, you agree to them.
Not medical advice
The app explains ingredients in plain language to help with everyday food choices. It is not medical or nutritional advice, and it doesn't replace your doctor, pediatrician, allergist or dietitian. Ask them about your child's or your own diet, especially for allergies, medical conditions, or babies and toddlers.
Allergies: always check the label
The app tries to catch every ingredient that could cause an allergic reaction, including "may contain" warnings, but we can't guarantee it:
- Product information comes from public databases (USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts) and from what you scan or type. It can be wrong, incomplete or out of date.
- Companies change recipes and labels without notice, and the same product can differ by batch, size or region.
- Ingredient names vary, and matching them is automatic, so some may be missed or misread.
Always read the full ingredient list and allergen statement on the package before buying or serving any food. Never rely on the app alone for a food allergy. If someone has an allergic reaction, call 911 or your local emergency number right away.
Ratings and information
Verdicts ("Good to go", "Sometimes", "Skip it"), scores, swap suggestions and notes about where ingredients are restricted are our opinions, based on public research and regulations as we understand them. They may change as science and laws change, and they may not fit every family. We don't promise that any information is complete, accurate or current.
Recalls
Where the app shows product recalls, they come from public government sources. Always confirm with the official recall notice and the lot code on your package. The app may not show every recall, or may show it late.
Using the app
- Use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes.
- Don't misuse it, try to break it, or copy its data in bulk.
- Product names and trademarks belong to their owners. Showing them doesn't mean they endorse us, or that we endorse them.
No warranty; limits on liability
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any harm or loss from using, or not being able to use, the app or its information, including food choices or allergic reactions. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Apple
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your use of the app.
Changes
We may update these terms. If we do, we'll change the date at the top. Continuing to use the app means you accept the new terms.
