The short version: we don't collect your data. There's no account, no ads and no tracking. What you put in the app stays on your phone.
This policy covers the Dumb It Down iPhone app ("the app"), made by Martinez United ("we", "us").
What stays on your phone
Everything you add to the app is stored only on your device. We never receive it, and it isn't uploaded to any server of ours (we don't have one). This includes:
- Family profiles: names, birthdays, photos, avatars, allergies and food rules
- Your scan history and shopping lists
- The store you pick for your list
- Ingredients you type in yourself
Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Camera
The app uses your camera to read barcodes and ingredient labels. This happens entirely on your phone using Apple's built-in tools. No photos or video are saved or sent anywhere.
Location
If you choose to find a grocery store on the map, the app asks for your location so it can show stores near you. Your location is used only for that search, through Apple Maps, and is never sent to us or stored by the app. You can say no and search for a store by name instead.
When the app goes online
Most products are checked using a database built into the app, offline. The app only connects to the internet in these cases:
- Unknown barcodes. If a barcode isn't in the built-in database, the app looks up that barcode number at Open Food Facts, a free public food database. Only the barcode number is sent. Product photos may be loaded from Open Food Facts too.
- Store map. Store searches go through Apple Maps, under Apple's privacy policy.
- Store logos. To show a store's logo, the app may load the small icon from that store's own website.
Like any website you visit, these services can see your device's IP address when the app connects to them. None of them receive your kids' details, your lists or your history.
What we don't do
- No accounts or sign-ups
- No advertising and no ad networks
- No analytics or tracking of any kind
- We never sell or share personal information, because we don't have any
Children
Dumb It Down is made for parents and caregivers. We don't knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The kid profiles you create stay on your device.
Health information
The app gives general food guidance, not medical advice. Always read the package for allergens, and ask your pediatrician about your child's diet.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
